Real time crime centers operate in environments where speed, coordination, and situational awareness matter every minute. Operators, supervisors, and command staff are expected to work across multiple systems, dense information feeds, and fast-moving incidents in rooms that limit visibility and make collaboration harder than it should be.
Long shifts and constant information flow can also take a toll on operator performance. Poor ergonomics, disorganized layouts, and inflexible infrastructure make it more difficult to stay focused, communicate clearly, and act quickly when it matters most. These limitations become even more pronounced with modern technology and additional data sources and place greater pressure on the physical environment.
Generic control rooms are rarely built to support that level of complexity, adaptability, or operational continuity.

Purpose Built Environments for Modern RTCCs
Evans focuses on four core considerations when designing RTCC environments for public safety operations.
1. Core Technologies and Room Purpose
Evans designs RTCC environments around the technologies in use and the operational purpose of the room.
2. Physical Environment and Ergonomics
Operator focused workstations and room layouts support comfort, visibility, reach, and sustained performance during long shifts.
3. Technology Integration and Unified Visibility
Integrated RTCC environments support video, CAD, GIS, ALPR, dispatch, and sensor data within one operational workspace.
4. Operational Planning
From people and processes to policies and procedures, Evans helps shape RTCC environments around operational best practices .
Experienced RTCC and Law Enforcement Insight
Meet Jamey Moss
Jamey is the Director of Public Safety at Evans Consoles. He works closely with public safety agencies to help them navigate the complex decisions involved in building, renovating, and operating PSAPs and RTCCs, offering practical guidance on how Evans’ solutions support successful outcomes.
His expertise is grounded in 25 years of real-world public safety experience. Jamey began his career as a communications officer and went on to serve in leadership roles across patrol, special operations, and criminal investigations, ultimately becoming a 911 Director. In 2019, he led the design and development of one of the nation’s first joint 911 and Real-Time Operations Centers, still recognized today as one of the most successful in the U.S.

Columbia County RTCC Case Study
In 2019, Jamey Moss led the design and development of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Real Time Operations Center, bringing 911 and RTCC operations into one integrated environment.
Explore the Project
1. Planning and Construction: Follow the project from concept to a completed floor-to-ceiling monitor wall.
2. Facility Layout: Tour the completed center to see console configuration, room layout and screen placement.
3. 911 Integration: See how dispatchers and RTCC analysts work together during live incidents.
4. Data Feeds: See how license plate readers and 4,000 district cameras are monitored from the consoles.
5. Operational Success: Watch how the team used video review and field coordination to help locate a suspect.
“An RTCC is not just about adding more screens. It is about creating an environment where people can interpret information quickly, communicate clearly, and support the field without delay.”
