The Challenge

The client, Saudi Aramco Khurais central producing facility plant, one of the largest in Saudi Arabia, was designed to produce 1.2 million barrels per day of stabilized Arabian Light crude blend.

The plant was divided in to three sectors, Crude Processing Facilities, Gas Processing Facilities and the Water Injection Plant and utilities.

The new CCR will control and monitor the GOSPs, stabilizing facilities, water injection facilities and Scada from individual operator consoles.

One of the largest challenges in this project was to create a modern control room, respecting the plan of the Italian architect, while meeting all the unique technical requirements.

The Evans Solution

Evans worked closely with end user to develop the console design for Central Control Room. The consoles optimized operator functionality, housed and mounted all of the required equipment, control buttons and printers, as well as, achieved an esthetically appealing result.

The consoles incorporated several custom solutions. For example, large printers were housed inside of the millwork, so they were not visible, yet easily accessible to operators. The client’s logo was embedded into the curved doors of the console ends.

Prototypes were built and shipped to the client for review and based on the feedback of all end users and integrators the final design was decided. Final installation began in 2009, three years after the initial presentation done by Evans the end user.
