The Challenge

The client, a large US Power company, is a $9B Fortune 500 energy-based holding company that has been bringing energy and fuel to homes in the Southern US for over 160 years.

The client came to Evans to help them provide console solutions and control room design consultation for 3 separate control rooms - one to monitor transmission, one for pipeline and a simulator room.

Of utmost importance to the client was the need for ergonomic sit-stand consoles that also provided clear and unobstructed sightlines for all operators to 3 different display walls.

It was this very challenging design request - a control room with both sit-stand consoles and clear operator AV wall sightlines - that ultimately had the client choose Evans for this project. Evans has a long history of control room design and is also considered an industry specialist in control room sightline optimization when offering its clients control room console solutions.

The Evans Solution

The Evans team proposed the dynamically flexible Dispatch console solution to the client to help them accommodate both their ergonomic and custom equipment requirements for all 3 rooms.

The large work area and sit-stand function ensured ample workspace and comfort for the operators. With the amount of unique custom equipment being used in the consoles, a unique brush grommet wire management system was incorporated into the consoles slat wall to ensure clean and continuous management of all the cabling and keeping the work surface free and clear for maximum usable space for the operators.

The Evans design team also incorporated custom forced-air ventilated sliding processor cabinets to ensure the proprietary processor technology would be kept cool, run efficiently and be easily accessible for troubleshooting.

Lastly, to ensure all clear sightline requirements were met, the Evans team provided a custom 8" high slat wall that ensured the central AV walls could be seen from every console position.
