The Challenge

The Client was looking for a state-of-the-art showplace for their regional emergency Management Center. The project consisted of two main areas: 1) Crisis Management Operations Center (CMOC) and 2) an Executive Command Center (ECC). The existing space consisted of cluttered office areas and a general conference room and called for a very creative yet functional design to fulfill the occupancy requirements.

Evans' challenge was to provide a turnkey solution for all specialty furniture, including an A/V display wall. As an additional unforeseen challenge, the existing customer-supplied architectural plans were evaluated by Evans and deemed to be inaccurate. But Evans was ready for the challenge.

The Evans Solution

A detailed needs analysis was performed and no less than 8 conceptual designs were presented. Narrowed down to three concepts, a single concept was decided upon and developed to produce a final design. Because of the client?s demanding time requirements, Evans provided same-day turnarounds on design revisions and even performed detailed on-site evaluations in order to provide accurate as-built drawings to assure a seamless product fit.

With the speed and flexibility of same-day revisions, it took a timeline of just under two weeks from the initial on-site evaluation to the final room design. This quick design timeline was even more remarkable because of the custom elements required by the client.

The CMOC required 22 operators to have clear site lines to a 2 x 4 display wall. Evans? solution involved creating a design consisting of a reverse curve configuration, maximizing the site lines for all 22 operators. In addition, Evans created a custom solution for sliding laptop trays to be located in between each operator so that these alternate areas could provide additional operator areas during crisis situations.

For the client?s second stage ECC requirements, Evans custom solution included seven operator positions, a custom veneer 18-foot conference table with integrated electronics, and an integrated display wall.

Lastly, as part of this turnkey solution, Evans created all the custom millwork and treatments to be integrated into a supervisor meeting room and break room.
